Overview
About the Department
The Department of Pharmacology is committed to achieve and strive for excellence in teaching and research. Apart from didactic lectures, teaching also involves interactive modules in Pharmacy, demonstration exercises in experimental Pharmacology, tutorials, group discussions on clinical oriented problems, drug display and seminars related to Pharmacology.
The Experimental and Research laboratories equipped with the latest instruments provide a wonderful arena for research-oriented students as well as faculty. Our department pursues a multifaceted mission of training and excellence in the field of medical education and research.
Pharmacology is the science which deals with drugs. The word is derived from Greek words 'Pharmacon' (an active principle) and 'logos' (a discourse or treatise). The field encompasses drug composition and properties, synthesis and drug design, molecular and cellular mechanisms, organ and systems mechanisms, signal transduction, molecular diagnostics, interactions, toxicology, chemical biology, therapy, and medical applications.
Opportunities exist in academia, industry, and the regulatory authorities. Graduates in pharmacology have typically pursued destinations in hospital research, pharmaceutical industry, clinical trials coordination, regulatory agencies, and science education.
Principles
Vision & Mission
Vision
To nurture scientifically sound and ethically grounded pharmacology learners who can contribute meaningfully to healthcare, research, and patient welfare.
Mission
To train students in pharmacological principles through interactive, practical, and clinically oriented teaching approaches that bridge theory and real-world pharmacy practice.
Leadership
Department Profile
The department is located on the third floor of the college premises and emphasises conceptual clarity, clinical orientation, and professional readiness in pharmacology through experimental laboratory work and research-focused activities.
Purpose
Objectives
Develop deep understanding of pharmacological mechanisms, rational therapy principles, and evidence-based approaches that prepare students for healthcare and research environments.
Outcomes
